Docomomo Bahrain, in collaboration with Design Majlis, presents an immersive two-day program dedicated to exploring the evolution of modernity across the Gulf region. This event highlights the progression of urban design, architecture, and modernization in Bahrain and beyond.

Yousif Dawood Alsayegh talk
Yousif Dawood Alsayegh, an influential Iraqi architect, designed the Gold Souq in Bahrain, which opened in 1981.
The Gold Souq represents the traditional Manama Souq in a modern form, featuring a three-story central atrium and vertical layout within an air-conditioned space. Al Sayegh’s design brought a new approach to retail architecture in Bahrain, blending cultural heritage with a contemporary vision.
Earlier this year, AlSayegh shared insights into his works at the Bahrain National Museum, offering a rare glimpse into the concepts behind his iconic projects that continue to shape Bahrain’s architectural identity.
